Sephardic Food Fundraising Gala Events
Sephardi Taste are Sephardic Jewish Food Fundraising Gala Dinners organized by Jew’els of Spain in different cities around the world, with the purpose of preserving and disseminating Sephardic Jewish culture and history through the flavors of its cuisine.
Sephardic gastronomy corresponds to the set of culinary customs of Sephardic Jews, who live or descend from Jews from Spain, Portugal, the Mediterranean coast of Africa and the territories that comprise the former Ottoman Empire.
It is the result of the influence of many cultures, with which they have lived for thousands of years, of tradition and Jewish religious laws. In many cases, the origin of the recipes is unknown, since most were transmitted orally from mothers to daughters, others are the result of a natural miscegenation between Jewish communities. Crypto-Jewish variants and elaborations have also been included, such as the xuetas recipes from the Balearic Islands or those written in the inquisitorial acts and edicts of grace, which provide invaluable historical information. The food was one of the many ways conversos were identified and denounced. What very few people know is that consuming some delicious Sephardic dish led to the death of Spanish Jews and conversos, such as Diego Arias from Medina de Campo (1490), who was reported for gifting nuegados and other fried pastries.
